cylinder misfiring (and other problems)

I pulled the codes and got...

Code 34- MAP sensor signal low. See code 33.
I am getting code 14 fixed. Will be putting in a new radiator and hoses today.

I know one of my cylinders is not firing. From searching the forum and google I found out code 33 could be thrown from a misfiring cylinder. Does that include 34 as well?

Also code 13. I just had the O2 sensor replaced and the wiring checked, I would say 6 months ago.

EDIT: How do I figure out which cylinder it is that is not firing.

Re: cylinder misfiring (and other problems)

Actually maybe both codes are realted to the misfire.

I'd start with the wires, give em a a good looking at, especially where they get close the exhuast manifolds. Make sure both ends of the boots are seated. If all is well there, my next step would be to pull the plugs.

Re: cylinder misfiring (and other problems)

If one cylinder is dead, there's a fairly easy way to determine which one it is.

Start the engine and then begin removing plug wires one at a time. The engine will run noticably worse each time you remove a wire, until you come to the cylinder that is not firing, it will run the same with the wire on or off.

What year, engine, and injection system do you have?

I replaced the radiator, cap, hoses, everything is just dandy. No problems with over-heating.

I pulled all the plugs... as it would turn out, dumb-ass is me, and all cylinders were firing. Changed wires anyway.

I cleared the codes, and pulled them again. This time I got 14 and 34.

in regards to code 14- after replacing the radiator I haven't had any problems with over-heating. So I guess its the sensor?

in regards to code 34- I read on http://www.iroczone.com/specs/TroubleCodes.htm that code 34 for my vehicle is a faulty MAF sensor. I read on the autozone website that a faulty MAF sensor could be the cause of my driveability issues. I have been reading around on the autozone site... I was wondering how Chevrolet recommands to test it. I am probably going to get a repair manual, but I wanted to get yours opinions first.

The visual appearance of the plug should tell you in most cases.

Probably get some nice arching with your idea....which is always cool.

Re: cylinder misfiring (and other problems)

did you check your plugs? run the car til its warm, let it cool down for a little while and pull them all.. they should all be a dry even tan color.. when re-installing them, use di-electric grease on your plug wires to prevent leaks..

a faulty MAF sensor could cause a wide array of problems.. but before you replace the sensor, try cleaning it.. Spray the fine metal wire with throttlebody cleaner, or ether starting fluid and let it AIR DRY. the cleaner will dry quickly and dissipate any moisture on the wire.. never touch that wire with anything...

Careful doing this.. hold the MAF so the excess fluid wont leak into the electronics..

Yeah I checked the plugs and they were just that.

I wasn't about to replace the MAF yet those things are expensive. LOL

Thanks for you help I will try that tomorrow.

Re: cylinder misfiring (and other problems)

Ok I sprayed the wire on the MAF with throttle body cleaner. I also took the oppertunity to clean the throttle body a bit. I also disconnected the battery. Well after I got everything put back together and squared away, I hopped in and took my camaro for a spin. I noticed instantly that it was running better felt smoother, quicker seemed to have new life breathed into it. Well I pulled the codes again and still I got 14 and 34.

.... IDIOT IS ME!!!!!! Just as I am typing this I remembered that I need to replace my air filters as well. That can be a cause for code 34 right?
