Airbag light on dash always on

Does anyone know why the airbag light would be on all the time? The car has never been wrecked that I know of. 1997 Cutlass Supreme SL with a 3.1 LV6. How can I get the light to go off?

Take it to a mechanic who has experience working on air bags. A dealer can help but they are expensive. The light indicates that there is a problem with the system and that it needs service. Get it checked asap due to the fact that the air bags may no work if you are in an accident.

Thanks for the input!!! I'll keep that in mind. I would like to hear from anyone who has had a similar experience.. and what you did to solve it (besides a dealership if at all possible). thanks!!

So, no other comments from folks re: airbag light? Does anyone know where the airbag control module is located? Other info?

I did a SEARCH on this site for airbag info and found only this thread. Any info you find and share here will go in the archives for future reference.
According to my '97 Bravada Service Manual, the Airbag light has to be checked with a scan tool.
Looks like a trip to the dealer or a competent shop.

my 94 had the same problem, my cousin came down from mexico, and he hit the steering wheel really hard, the light came off. It came on when i turned on the car again, wierd.

I don't know about the '97 model but I have a '96 cutlass supreme and it was recalled for the air bags. We had to wait about 6 months to get it fixed but it was covered, thankfully, the mechanic said the part he put on cost $900 not counting the labor.

You can go to www.autosite.com and check all recalls for any car make/model.

in my 94 the air bag light came on and was on for like 5 days....then the air bag randomly deployed when i was sitting in a parking lot...

i know this is a really old post but i'll reply anyway
