Now THIS is an A/C problem

So I'm driving along with the AC on, when all of a sudden smoke starts boiling out of the vents and the fan cuts off...

I turn it off, pull over and open the hood...good news, the engine hasn't exploded and isn't on fire...

So I get home and test it out again...now the fan won't come on at all...so I check out the fuse box...lo and behold, the fuse is MELTED into the box...

Replace fuse and now everything works...EXCEPT AC...

What's going on?

I've tried charging, but it won't stay on long enough...and just burns out another fuse...

Re: Now THIS is an A/C problem

Just to clarify a few things---

1. The fuse is the 25 amp blower fuse under the dash??

2. The fuse doesn't blow again when you replaced it and the AC and heater is OFF??

3. The Heater/AC fan works again after an new fuse is put in and the new fuse doesn't blow??

4. The fuse blows when you try to use the AC for cooling???

There is a AC clutch relay (should be relay D) in the power distribution center (close to the battery). Find it and pull it out.

If your fuse no longer blows in the AC position,
turn the AC OFF
reinstall the relay and
disconnect the wire at the compressor clutch.

Turn the AC to ON. If the fuse doesn't blow, The compressor clutch is shorted.

Let us know what you find.........
