Need Your Help With My Paint Project

i started this project i was gonna see if charcol primer effected this red color i had,so i took a peice of .20 styrene sheet primered half with charcol grey primer other have with red primer.ive sanded both at the same time i sprayed the red on them at the same time and im into clearing them now but the clear keeps dissappering by that i mean ill spray the peice and come back later and it will look like just plan flat paint.i dont understand it i wet sanded the color before i cleared it like i always do and i cleared it again and it still looked flat when i was done could it be the weather?its been very hot and humid here so i wouldnt doubt it but its not getting fish eye bubbles or anything. i dunno whats wrong i dont wanna spray my mk3 supra and have it look like crap so please help me

I have never heard of wet sanding the color before clearing. Yeah, it could be the humidity. What kind of clear are you using. I live in Florida and I have never ever had this problem. I just use canned clear if that means anything to you. Just my 2 cents.

Did you leave the lacquer long enough to 'gas-out' before you applied the clear? That could cause it, you should ideally leave lacquers for upto two weeks before applying clear. What type of clear are you using? You DO get 'flat' clear which will make gloss 'flat'.

i use all cans dupli color it sat out for about 4 days with good venting it was dry trust me it cracked on the edges a lil because the sheet bent and it didnt leave anything behind so it was pretty dry it seems as if it got scared because i just got done working on my 1:1 looked at it and it looked perfect i dunno wtf is goin on but its trippin me out maybe because i sprayed it early in the morning in the garage? i dunno whats goin on but its perfect now and im really lost

it prevents orange peel just a lil ive never ever had orange peel by doing it this way so im gonna keep doin it just 1 of my many weird ways of doing things yea i used cans too.

That's easy. From your description, you were shooting clear over primer.

The primer absorbed the clear on the first few coats, like a sponge.
Primer is porous, paint is not.
Once the clear had saturated the primer, it was like any other paint, non-porous and that's when it glossed up for you.

In the future you don't need to sand the primer to clear it, you will build up enough clear during the sealing phase to make it smooth... - Mark

uh......i did primer then color 4 coats then clear so the primer ate the clear for the first 5 coats them it got better?
