tachometer help in 89 civic std
ok i got it installed and the rpms work but, i hooked it to the postive battery cable, so it stays on the whole time, where is a good place to hook the red wire to so that it will only come on when the key is on, what color wire and where to locate it. also, when i try to set the shift time the little knob that you turn only goes between 7k and then it moves to out of range? is it off calibrated or something?
its an auto gauge tach

Re: tachometer help in 89 civic std
Do a search on tachs cuz I think the out of range calibration has to do with what wires were hooked up that weren't supposed to be or that were supposed to be. A good place to run your positive wire (with an inline fuse of course) to the little box that sits just above your fuse box. There are two metal male prongs sticking out of it and you can just connect a female prong to your wire and slide on to the left one. Any accessory fuse in the fuse box works too but I don't trust that sort of ghetto rigging. GL

ive been searching for like 2 days man, which fuse box? the one in the engine? or under the dash? ok heres how i hooked it up, green to the blue wire on the dizzy, white to the dimmer switch, black to ground(metal on the body), and the red i have to redo cuz of what i said earlier, yes, i did fuse this wire. the tach part of it works fine, but when i try to set the shift point with the little dial its like the needle is not set with the dial, when i turn the dial all the way to the left, the needle stops at like 7.5k, then when i turn it all the way to the right, the needle goes way to the right side of the tach and stops. I need it range between 0 and 10k, do you understand what im saying? has anyone else had this problem, i really need help cuz my car has been sitting for like 3 days of me trying to figure this out.

Re: tachometer help in 89 civic std
I'm not familiar with setting shift points on aftermarket tachs... sorry.
The fuse box under the dash. You'll see what I mean (right above the other fuses). Take a male connector and just plug your fused red wire onto it (the prong on the left)... piece of cake, man... it's connected via ignition so when you start the car, the tach comes on.
