4.3L vortec v6 mods

I've got a 2000 Regular Cab Silverado with a 4.3l (262cid) Vortec V6.

Right now, the only mods I have done to it is a cat-back exhaust sytem., giving the truck right at 200 HP. However, I'd like to get up to the 300 HP+ range.

What is the cheapest, and quickest way to get this 100+ HP gain. I'm looking to spend under $#000 for it all, unless a S/C is the best option in which I'll raise my budget.

I haven't been able to find hardly any good products for a 4.3L V6, so if anyone could give me a list of what mods and where to get them, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Also, does anyone know of any good website with tutorials on making fiberglass sub boxes? I'm looking to replace the center seat witha fiberglass amp rack with flows into a sub box behind each seat. But to achieve the desired effect, I need to use fiberglass. Any good tutorials out there?

Thanks,

Patrick

Three things, (1) Wet Nitrous appx $600, (2) STS Turbo appx $4000, (3) and most important is tuning the PCM no matter what you do appx $450.

If you're looking for that much more HP, you might either look at buying a v8 drivetrain from a junkyard or trade it in to buy a v8 silverado. I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but I tend to think that much HP from that engine is unreasonable/unreliable, but that is just my opinion

It says it on the plastic shielding on the intake manifold

Don't quote me on this but, I believe every truck after 1995 that Chevy made had a Vortec engine in it.

Re: 4.3L vortec v6 mods

Do like me and consider a 6.0L swap and just give it more time. I'm thinking I may be able to get it all done for $5-6k and the HP numbers would sit well over 300 at the crank with a cam and heads.

where in the hell are you gonna find a 6.0L for under $6k???

besides, doing a v8 swap would require much more modifcation than an engine swap; new drivetrain, rear end, everything.

be too much money

so i think i'll turbo it, w/ a cold air intake and some new headers

power programmer too

and jethro_3, STS, as far as I know, doesn't make a turbo for a 4.3 v6

Like I said, but a drivetrain from a junkyard. If you can't find a 6.0 for under $6,000, maybe I'm thinking of something else.... Right, you can get an LS1 new from gmpartsdirect for $5,900. the LS1 is comparable to the 6.0 on most levels. http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/perform...ATID=1099.html

Re: 4.3L vortec v6 mods

You can get a brand new 6.0L crate engine 345hp and 380lb-ft for $3700. http://www.sdpc2000.com/catalog/120/...ate-Engine.htm

Trying to get a ton of speed/power out of a small engine is a waste cuz if you run 300+ out of a 6 it will break before you know it. More power always puts more wear on an engine. So start out with an egine that is designed to last with that much power and it will work out better for you.

Dude, you can pick up a used 6.0L for under $2k if you look around. The $6k includes a cam and everything to make the 6.0L work and maybe even a 4L80E and conversion hardware as well. Just shop around for used stuff.

Re: 4.3L vortec v6 mods

they made vortecs in 91 all the way up just from 91-93 was the H.O High Output motors, and in 94 they put the multiport injection motors in the blazers and the vortec TBI motors in the trucks..and about the HP i would get a jet chip/programmer and then plugs and wires then before you get a turbo i would get a shift kit and a highperformace torqu converter so you dont blow anything and you have optimum performance with clean shifting, but really and truthfully i would get a aftermarket cam from comp, and that will open it up for about 25 to 30 HP, the Turbo will be the quickest HP and you may get 100HP but if not you diff will get 90HP and deppending on the pipes and intercooler and exsost flow you probably can get 150HP out of it maybe even 200HP but i dought that, NEVER USE NITROS all that will do is burn up ur rings and pistons, but if you have 2wd i would tell you to not get the turbo because if you are looking for speed and performace you would be wasing ur time, once u boost up the turbo all u will do is spin, i would get a s10 and do all that stuff to a ZR2 and trust me if you did you would woop almost everyones ass, the fastest production truck is a 1991-92 GMC Syclone with the 4.3L V6 and it ran 12sec flat on the 1/4 mile, soo ppl making fun of that 4.3L they honestly dont know what they are talking about, i have a 94 s10 4x4 with alot of work done to it and it woops alot of ass, but i launch out of 4wd so thats one reason, but even for 20mph to whatever i bet everyone even mustangs, but just hit me up on here if you really want to know everything about ur motor

Re: 4.3L vortec v6 mods

my truck came stock with the 6.0L, currently it has 175K and is still going very strong, it has piston slap when cold but quits when motor warms up.... if your trying to increase the power in the vehicle for racing reconsider be cautious in considering the 6.0L, its very efficient for towing, and hauling....... but to reach the potential to race with i believe it WILL require being modofied with at least a cam and tuning or a chip will be required...... AND THERE IS MANY THINGS TO CONSIDER IN THAT UPGRADE LIKE .... wiring, PCM (possible upgrade but at least Tuning), transmission, transfer case, rear and front axles, springs, shocks,
cross members, drive shafts, exhaust...... be prepared that will NOT be an inexpensive swap from the 4.3 to 6.0L plus it will be very time consuming and expensive. if you determine to do that swap try to find a used silverado with6.0 and replace... weigh the options on different motor swaps, its possible a smaller v8 built correctly may prove less expensive and much more effective than a 6.0L engine swap.
