205/50/17 tires on a 96 celica?

What is the max tire size that will fit with 17" rims on a 96 celica GT? I want to know if 205/50/17's will fit cause of the millions of potholes in Tucson, and if they won't fit whats the max size that will?

I think they will fit. The only problem is you are probably gonna have to have your speedometer recalibrated to compensate for the new tire size.

I don't have them to fit em yet, I was gonna buy em when I got the money but wanted to make sure they fit first. Also about the speed thing, how do you get that fixed?

dont worry bout the speed thing, you guage wil be less than 1/2 a mile an hour off

and yes those tires will work, i have 205-55-16's and they fit with plenty of room left...someone on here has 215-40-19's on their 5th gen

Wow, has he had to have the fender reshaped. I had 205/55/16s on mine and when I lowered it the rear tires rubbed on the fenders so I went down to 45 profile which also fixed my speedometer. It had been pretty bad, every 10 mph i was doing it said it was 1 mph lower. So 70=77mph.

Re: 205/50/17 tires on a 96 celica?

Really??? My tires hung off the edge of the rim a little and rubbed on the wheel well. I cut the lip back without cutting the fender any higher and it fixed it. Maybe the tire hung off too far or the rims stuck out too far. I've had mine lowered 2".

i dont know? the reason they rubbed is cause the plastic om the inside of the fender was hanging down a little bit it was loose. it was only one wheel though. what gen. celica was it?

Ahhhh, the reason I rub and most of you don't is you have hatchbacks. The hatchbacks were made wider in the @$$. They can easily fit 215 or even 225 in the back, when a coupe is pushin it with 205s. The only tires that rub on my car are the ones on the back.

Re: 205/50/17 tires on a 96 celica?

....um.....how do they rub in the back, if there rubbing in the back then there rubbing all the time in the back, and btw the liftback has the exact same wheelbase as the coupe model, its the all track that has a wider wheelbase
