Question Wiring factory SHO CD unit into GL Taurus HELP!

OK Guys. I need some help from some of you SHO people out there PLEASE!!!

I have a 93 Taurus GL that came with the factory tape deck. I recently bought a factory system that came out of a 91 SHO. This is the tape deck with the cd slave unit that goes in place of the cup holder. I have the pigtails that came with the SHO unit.

Here's my problem. I need to know where the power wires that come from the back of the cd player hook up to the car. There are 5 wires. I tried to match the colors and splice them into the power wires for the radio, but the player wouldn't work. The colors of the wires are:
Yellow/black
black
black/green
Light blue/red. There are two of these that are the same color.

The rest of the wires are in a cable that hook directly to the receiver, so I don't have a problem with these.

If anyone could tell me which color is for what then I would be forever grateful.

I'm not positive on this, but I think the CD player only came with the JBL audio system in the SHO. That system had an external amplifier in the trunk. If your car does not have the external amp and you didn't get it and corresponding wiring with the radio, you might be out of luck.

I can figure the speaker wiring out, but not having the amp setup wouldn't affect me being able to get power to the CD player would it? This is soooo aggrivating. If I could just get my hands on a good wiring schematic...

I have the wiring schematic for a '93 SHO, but that is a second generation SHO. I compared the wires you mentioned to the diagram for a '93 and they don't match. That is not surprising since the JBL system was different between the first and second gens.

How much do you trust yourself to remove the covers of the CD player and not break anything? Sony makes quite a few of the Ford radios, and they sometimes silk screen terminal functions on the board. That might help. You might find something labeled "ill" for illumination -- connects to the interior light illumination/dimmer function, "rem" for remote power, or "acc" for accessory. There might also be "Gnd" for ground. Grounds are usually pretty obvious because the connect to the board's ground plane. Not sure if one of your wires might be either +5V for the player, or possible a data line from the deck to select the CD player, etc. I would expect that the data line and a low voltage power would go through the cable harness that connects to the deck.

Have you searched www.shotimes.com for Gen 1 diagrams?

You could also subscribe to www.alldatadiy.com for your model and year. From my experience with Alldata, they have electronic copies of the factory service manuals. It costs $25 for a one year subscription. There are also many people selling CD-ROM service manuals on eBay for a reasonable price.
