Ticket/Insurance Question

Well i had my car a little over a year and had no tickets at all... somehow, when i got pulled over going up onto a bridge for going 17 over. The cop wrote it for 10 over and that was a little better. My parents were pretty pissed at this but eventually let it go when i said that i was only going ten over and the cop was a prick. Then, about 4 months later i was about to go up onto another big bridge and started speeding up to 42 mph in a 25. A cop came the other way and flicked on his lights and came after me, i was gonna run but realized id have no chance with the long bridge crossing Lake Superior with a police station not too far off the other end of the bridge. I got the ticket and im wondering if since i live in wisconsin and i got hte ticket in minnesota... my insurance will find out/parents with anything in the mail, or can i just pay it and then be ok. I have talked to a few people about this but all of them have a little different opinion about it. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

If I am remembering correctly, the insurance will only check the state driving record that you are residing in. For instance, I live in Texas, so if I got a ticket in Oklahoma or Louisiana, I don't think it will affect my current state driving record. You may be able to pay the second ticket and it won't show on your drving record. Or you can see if they allow deferred ajudication, where you pay the ticket and if you don't get another one in the state or county (don't remember which) the ticket gets dismissed.

I think it will get reported to your state. Usually no matter where you get pulled over, your insurance and the state you live in will get wind of it eventually.

Re: Ticket/Insurance Question

I live in minnesota and got a ticket in north dakota... that was about 2 years ago and my insurance still doesn't know about it...
If I remember correctly your insurance won't find it unless you change your insurance for any reason which then they will do a record search.... somethin like that...

Re: Ticket/Insurance Question

I reside in Toronto and I've been ticketed in New York state, and payed the fine the same day. The ticket never showed up on my drivers abstract. Apparently if you get ticketed out of your state/province or country, paying the fine within 24hrs prevents it from being put on your driving record(Unless it's a major violation).

Outside of Canada you can get as many tickets as you want and it wont touch you in Canada. I am in the US right now (from Alberta) working for 5 months with a bunch of other Canadians, and total we have been pulled over about 20-25 times, with no tickets even being written because most cops dont know how to process out licenses/plates.

I am not sure how cross state/county works in the US though,
