00 Le. speed, tach, odo, turn signals no work

2000 Lesabre Limited ... As I was going down the road, the speedometer, odometer, tachometer and the turn signals suddenly quit working. Occassionaly they will return for a very short period of time. The computer seems to be going into "default" mode as transmission begins to shift very abruptly. Gas & temp gauge work.

Help! Has anyone come across this problem and figured out what it is?
Thanks for your help in advance.

You should have some stored codes in the PCM. Have it checked, and you will know where to start. Auto Zone will do it for free!!

Check the ground G201 located under the plastic trim piece that runs along the carpet below the front passenger door, G201 is a connector with a bunch of ground wires plugged into it that bolts to the door frame, this plastic trim piece hides it from view, if you pull the trim off it is pretty obvious behind there. This provides a solid ground for the IPM and a number of other devices, IPM being the instrument panel module. Water intrusion past the door gaskets could cause it to corrode, if it looks bad then it probably is, try and clean it up, especially check those terminals inside the connector where the wires clip in. By the way, all of the grounding points throughout the car will look like this one, this is a typical ground post, the terminals that are used to crimp onto the wires and push into the connector are female metripack terminals and are sometimes available at a local parts store, I had to try a few different places, none of the major chains had them. Make sure there is no rot or corrosion on the bolt or lug that actually contacts the body of the car.
