My turbo is bad what do you guys suggest
I got all kinds of white smoke comming out of the exhaust. The mechanic told me it was the turbo. So what do you guys reccomend I do. I wanted to get the t4 turbo but do you guys think my car would be running right. I also want to drive my car as soon as possible but like that I cant. If I would put on the t4 turbo would my car mess up. Its stock except for k&n filter. Or would I have to get also the fmic and the fuel upgrade and the downpipe and all that. Please someone help me thanks?

Re: My turbo is bad what do you guys suggest
White smoke is normally caused by burning coolant, which is normally indicitive of a bad head gasket. Before you go throwing parts at the car,
I would recommend you do a compression test. You can get the gauge at walmart/autozone for about $25.

The stock gauge is crap. It's just the ECU's estimate of boost. I really don't remember where mine was when I was stock. After I got an aftermarket gauge I don't think I ever looked at the stock gauge again. I would do the compression test because it's a lot cheaper than a new turbo. But that's just my .I don't know what you mean by "sounds kind of funny".

Re: My turbo is bad what do you guys suggest
just for a bit of information, there are THOUSANDS of different styles of t3/t4/t04e/t04 turbo combinations that you can put on your car. you'll need to decide EXACTLY which one you want tnd then come back and ask the same question.
if you're just putting on a bigger turbo to make the car faster but you don't want i t to be a beefed up car with some turbo lag, you might want to look into replacing it with a 14b instead of a hybrid. the 14b is a little bigger than the t25 but not quite as big as the "t4" that you want. |

You can't just slap on a bigger turbo and expect it, and the car to run right. You need to have ALL the supporting mods, ie. fuel upgrades, exhaust, a logging device or atleast an afc, bov, boost gauge, and ic pipes at the least.

Re: My turbo is bad what do you guys suggest
you'll need the fuel, exhaust, and logging device before you even need to think about putting on a front mount. also most people prefer the stock manifolds versus the header anyways, they're less prone to cracking. if i was you and you HAVE to get a t3/t4 hybrid, buy the turbo and get the fuel, bov, exhaust system and logging device all at once, then you can start to worry about other things like front mount and that sort of shit. like clipsekid said, you cant just slap on a few big parts and hope the rest of the car keeps up.
get a used t-25 and run that until you can get enough $$ to buy the "t4" and ALL supporting mods. |

Well say I get this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...%3AON%3AUS%3A2 What would happen with my car. Would it be smoking. It would just be for like a month with this installed.

Re: My turbo is bad what do you guys suggest
Good old SSAutoCrap. I wouldn't buy a lightbulb from those guys.
If you are dead seat against verifying that it is indeed the turbo then you can do anything you want. It's not my car. You can bolt on a T25, 14b or 16g and run with the stock exhaust/fuel system/etc but you can't turn up the boost. They didn't give any information on the "t4" turbo so who knows how much it flows. It could flow 300cfm or 3000cfm. So without knowing exactly what it flows at different psi who knows what will happen to your car. You can buy my old T25 if you want.

Correction : Updating from a t25 to a 14b does not mean you need fuel upgrades, intercooler piping, etc, etc, etc. It means don't run a ridiculous amount of boost and you'll be fine. I ran a big 16g on my car @ 15 psi, all stock, and it was just fine. 15 psi is generally safe, but if you ran 12, you'd be just fine. 25 psi on a 20g is not safe. Just be smart about the way you do things, and your car will hold up. And the stock boost guage does not read shit. It says my car is running 7 psi all the time, and it definitely is not.

Re: My turbo is bad what do you guys suggest
so what turbo do you guys reccomend for me because I wanna have at least 350 hp or get to 10's in the 1\4 mile but what I dont want to do is buy a turbo just for now and then later buy another turbo. Anywayz Im going to get all the modifications I need in a month. But I need my caR fixed as soon as possible. So what turbo and what site is it on that you guys reccomend, but also not to much money.

Re: My turbo is bad what do you guys suggest
Listen very carefully. Get a used T25 or 14b (will need install kit) for around $100. You can only run stock boost, no more than 15psi until you have 20 more supporting mods. Blowing your turbo does not mean you don't have to follow the standard upgrade path.
Bottom line: you can install however large turbo you want... but your car will not be ANY faster until you tune the car. I would recommend you step away from ebay and buy quality like everyone else. Those turbo kits are JUNK. |
