Obd II Emissions Question

The mods that I will will be doing, which will be one at a time due to fund allocation issues, due to weak ass government pay. but hey. I didn't join for the money.
I am curious as to how it will effect the emissions test, since they hook me up to a computer instead of the old tail pipe test. In one more year it will be a classic and I will not have to donate to the government slush fund.
What mods will start affecting the emissions of my baby?
I am still in the first stage of the 2g mod process.
Thanks in advance for you responses.

Re: Obd II Emissions Question

I'm too lazy to check your profile and see where you live, but I will tell you about PA's OBD-II emissions.

There is a visual inspection of the exhaust for leaks, presence of a cat, muffler, etc. They never even bothered to open the hood. They tested the gas cap and then plugged me into the computer.

All the OBD-II emissions machine does is verify that the emissions sensors are "ready for testing." This includes such things as O2 heater circuit, EGR valve, etc. It also verifys that there are no stored CEL's.

Here is where it becomes fun. Eclipses have this random problem of resetting the status of the monitors every time the car is turned off. They should not do this. The monitors should only be reset when the power to the ECU is lost. When the monitors are reset the ECU has to go through certain "drive cycles". The ECU drive cycles are almost impossible to complete and absolutely rediculous.

Example drive at 40mph and 50% throttle for 20 minutes, decelerate to 10mph without using the brakes. Accelerate at 10% throttle to 55mph and drive for 23 minutes, decelerate to a stop using the brakes and turn off the car. Well duh, turning off the car is what resets the monitors.

Anyway, if your car has this problem, you have to take it to the stealership and pay them to "force" the monitors into the readiness state so the car will pass emissions.

Two years ago this cost me $136. I did read on tuners that someone was charged almost $250.

Anyway, to answer your questions, unless you remove the cat and replace it with a test pipe, you will be fine. Mine passed with all of the mods in my sig, except for the EVO III.

and that's why I'm glad I have a 95 Its obdII but they think it's obdI

If you live in a very rural state such as Wyoming or New Mexico etc. I wouldn't worry too much about restrictions but if you are in a big city Houston, Los Angeles, New York etc. it might be an issue

Re: Obd II Emissions Question

well if you are in CA, its a little harder...did you recently purchase your car? If so, get it smogged now so you will have 2 full years before you have to worry about emissions...but the mods that will affect your emissions are different cats, exhaust sometimes, I expect a new turbo, modifications to your fuel system.........haha getting rid of the cat because it sucks ass anyways lol....if you do, get a test pipe flanged so you can bolt a cat back on when you do go for emissions....
