sputtering and hesitation

i have a 2000 sephia with 47000 miles.

its fine in town, but when i drive at highway speeds (70 mph and above) for several miles, then leave the interstate, i go to stop at a light or stop sign.

then when i start to take off again, it sputters and hesitates like its about to shut off.

after a few minutes it is back to normal again, as long as i am in town.

anyone have any ideas?

thanks

Bill

p.s. by the way, i have recently replaced: the fuel filter, and all spark plug wires and plugs.

p.s.s. its still under warranty until 2010 or 100,000 miles, but i'm sure none of this will be covered unfortunately.

Re: sputtering and hesitation

This sounds to me like the Idle Air control sticking/dirty.

You can read more about it at the tread below...

Hmm... should be on the side of/near the throttle body attached with a few bolts.. Kinda oblong overall and will have a connector cable attached to it.

well, since its under warranty i took it to the dealer yesterday. they said they couldn't make the car do it.

i did look around the engine some though.....

up front right behind the radiator there are a couple of "sensor" looking things coming out of the exhaust area....thin, long shaped with wires coming out of them.

i'm going to take a look at them saturday a.m.-- have to wait for the engine to cool down first.

Re: sputtering and hesitation

Good luck! I'm away from my car this weekend (we have the same engine), but if you can't find the thing, I'll have a look and give the specific location if someone else doestn' come along before I get back home monday.
