sputtering and hesitation
i have a 2000 sephia with 47000 miles.
its fine in town, but when i drive at highway speeds (70 mph and above) for several miles, then leave the interstate, i go to stop at a light or stop sign. then when i start to take off again, it sputters and hesitates like its about to shut off. after a few minutes it is back to normal again, as long as i am in town. anyone have any ideas? thanks Bill p.s. by the way, i have recently replaced: the fuel filter, and all spark plug wires and plugs. p.s.s. its still under warranty until 2010 or 100,000 miles, but i'm sure none of this will be covered unfortunately. |

Re: sputtering and hesitation
This sounds to me like the Idle Air control sticking/dirty.
You can read more about it at the tread below... http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...ir+control+kia

Re: sputtering and hesitation
Hmm... should be on the side of/near the throttle body attached with a few bolts.. Kinda oblong overall and will have a connector cable attached to it.

well, since its under warranty i took it to the dealer yesterday. they said they couldn't make the car do it.
![]() i did look around the engine some though..... up front right behind the radiator there are a couple of "sensor" looking things coming out of the exhaust area....thin, long shaped with wires coming out of them. i'm going to take a look at them saturday a.m.-- have to wait for the engine to cool down first. |

Re: sputtering and hesitation
Good luck! I'm away from my car this weekend (we have the same engine), but if you can't find the thing, I'll have a look and give the specific location if someone else doestn' come along before I get back home monday.
