A couple summers ago my radiator was clogging up and my engine was running a little hot. Just out of curiosity I removed the grill and hit the freeway. My temp gage dropped dramatically. As an added bonus the increased airflow made my A/C work better than ever. I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of an aftermarket grill for the Escort?
Not that it made it go any faster but I recently removed my bumper and did some work on it. I painted it and installed some driving lights and clearance markers. Got it back together and now I just need a grill. I am not putting the stock one back on. Maybe I can find something to fabricate one? Some fine steel mesh screen? If nobody markets a grll then someone certainly should! I bought some auxillary lights at Wal-Mart for less than $20. I removed the 50 watt bulbs and replaced them with 100 watt bulbs. These lights are definately "FOR OFFROAD USE ONLY" so I never use them around the cops

Now that you mention it AND I think about I DID come across an aftermarket grille last week on Ebay..I happened to notice it in the parts and accessories when I typed in Ford Escort.SORRY..I can't remember anything else about it..didn't really look at it.Maybe it or a similar or another one are there now?..
Escorts from my era..anyway..91-6 are VERY! sensitive engine temperature wise to wind/air flow through the grille! EVEN with a perfect cooling system..and now pretty much all of it replaced. .(as preventative maintenance..pushing 270k..).mine gets the "cover the front of the rad treatment next winter"..OR LOL..ROFL..some sort ot "exotic" "rad shutter" system as used on big trucks, equipment,TRAIN locomotives.. |

I went to eBay and saw the '93 Escort grill. I think they made a mistake. Looks like grill from older generation Escort.

I took my bumper off and painted it. Installed 100 watt hi intensity driving lights and clearance markers (just to be different!). I'm going to try and fabricate a grill out of heavy fine mesh screen. It'll be painted black. Hope it works!

I'm trying to modify a Mazda 323 Protege grill to fit in my Escort. It's a little bit wider than an Escort grill so I cut it, removed a section, and am in the process of puting it back together. It mounts to the car in the same way as an Escort grill and has a sportier look to it.

Re: Aftermarket Grill?
Not that this is exact answer to your question but I put some cosworth hood scoops on. They are from the Escort Cosworth in the U.K. they helped with engine temp greatly and look the shit too.

I've seen some mesh steel, being sold at trade centers and flea markets, that is supposed to replace the grill and give it a more race car look, thought about that when I was rebuilding the front end of my car. I drove around with a cookie sheet in the winter before I finally found a grill for mine..LOL... but it's thick metal in diamond shapes, might work for you.

That sounds like what I'm looking for. The diamond shaped stuff. I just need to get off my butt and do it!
