Unhappy Really nead some advice on a transmittion

Hi all

My 91 lebaron has just developed a major noise which I think is coming from the transmittion. Its shifting just fine, but, picture is you will, a manual transmittion with a thrust bearing gone, and the noise that would make.

Now I know nothing about autos and I'm rather concerned as to what a garage is going to tell me. Does any body have any sort of diagram that I could see to have an educated guess as to what it might be? Or does anybody out there have an idea?

Any info gratefully received

WC

what kind of noise is it? If it's a whining sound that increase with engine speed, mostly when its in park, it probably a bad oil pump. If it's a metallic noise around 30 MPH, could be your transfer gears getting weak, a car that is 14 years old can develop this problem being that Chrysler has revised the transmission in your car numerous times within the past 16 years since it first came out.

Unhappy

Well, it looks like I was totally wrong according to the mechanics. They say its coming from the engine, and the engine pan needs to come off for inspection. I'll know more when thats done tomorrow, but at the moment, even the mechanics are scratching their heads.

The noise is like hitting 2 frying pans together right by your ear, yet the engine runs totally smooth, and the noise disappears when either its in drive, or you rev the engine to 750 rpm.

Bizzare!

well, it has a low idle if u have to rev it to 750rpm. Second of all, if itsounds that bad than the engine prolly needs replacement or rebuilding.
