89 golf

im new to the volkswagon world.i have a friend with a sexy as 96 golf and ive wanted one for a while but i like the MK1's. ive been with hondas and acuras. i bought a 1989 vw gl, yesterday for $200 and the dam thing rung great. looks great. 5 spd. is there a engine swap for vdubs that old. what are some ways i could get some more power out of it. thanks guys

u could swap in the 16v of around the same year. im about to try that myself on my car

I also own a 89 golf and am looking for info on swapping for a 91 16v gti engine, i could use any info you have too, check more of the forums theres some info but you have to look for it
