Shift Knob

I have a 95 manual Rio Grande and i've been tryin to get the shift knob off the past couple of days. I saw in some older threads that someone said to pop the plastic shift patern off and that there might be a small allen screw back there....did that and there wasn't one. I've also tried twisting really hard. It twists with much effort but it does not come off. Any ideas??

Thanks

You will need a wrench. But there should be a metal piece under the shift knob. Hold the shift knob in one hand and with the wrench, trying tightening that metal piece. There should be 2 flat spots on each side of the metal piece for the wrench to sit. As your trying to tighten that metal piece, try and spin the shift knob off. The knob and that metal peice are tightened together to keep them in place so you have to try and seperate them.

Hope this helps
Dan

Re: Shift Knob

Interesting, I tried to take my nobbies off (hehehe tsk tsk) ended up using vice grips to mess with the smoothness of the nob (hehehe) I ended up just cutting the plastic rubber covering slightly to get it off and install my 4wd linkage.
