exhaust sound

i just wanted to know what kind of exhaust i could use for the v6 camaro to make it sound nice and throaty, (as if it had a v8) , but not too too loud because its for my girlfriends car, just something nice and mellow, deep, throaty.
thanx for any of your reply's.

Re: exhaust sound

check out flowmaster's website, they have sound byte samplers that are pretty close to actual to give you a ball park idea.

Re: exhaust sound

DO NOT use flowmasters on a sixer, ive heard it, it sounds weak, if you want decent sound from your six banger i suggest magnaflow.

Easy there killer, I put a sheet of stainless steel in my backseat, and I heard Earl's rearing to go for round two with that sweet chunk in the trunk.

Re: exhaust sound

magna flow or a turbo muffler. The turbo brand muffler has a nice resonating sound and hold it for normal driving until you really get on it. Its pretty decent. But its really all opinion as far as exhaust sound goes.

Re: exhaust sound

yeah dont get flowmaster, i have it and i dont like it, the next system to go on this time will be borla but it will be a 8 by then. good luck getting the sound u want, because we have 2 less cylenders and not to mention the headers we have suck and the upgraded ones aint much better when it comes to sound. now if we could get some long tube headers for our cars im sure that would help the sound but like i said it wont sound like a 8 at all, but it can get a bit louder.

Re: exhaust sound

I just installed my magnaflow and I like the sound... the thing I learned is that its impossible to make a V6 sound just like V8, just not happening with just a catback atleast.

I am very happy with the magnaflow, nice sound, nice look, nice kick but its tough to find a good price on on. I payed $400 (w/ shipping) and that was on sale (10%). it sounds halfway like a v8 and halfway ridiculous, but its a good ridiculous... like a "F***, thats loud" ridiculous... doesnt sound like a dirtbike, so its all good.... GET MAGNAFLOW.

also as a side note if you are installing. you will most likely need to modify the pipes, really no way around it. I had to heat mine up and smack it a few times so it didnt hit at the bend over every bump. Also it rattles every now and then on the heat shield which I may or may not fix in the near future (I can live with it for now)

Re: exhaust sound

You guys should hear 4.3's v6's with a good muffler. They sound nice and can get real close to a v8 sound. Especially when they have bigger cams. But thats mostly because its basically a 350 with the rear 2 cylinders chopped off. So you guys who like v6's should swap in 4.3 liters. That would be cool.

Re: exhaust sound

I'm a Borla guy. I figure if I'm going to spend money on something, then I might as well spend it wisely. I kind of always live by the term, "You get what you pay for." If you pay for a cheap system, then odds are you won't get the results that you were hoping for. Though, I have yet to hear what my Borla system sounds like on my lil 3.4, but I'm pretty sure it'll sound mean. My system consists of Pacesetter ceramic coated headers, removed cat, and Borla cat-back w/ McCord powerplate cutout. Headers should be here by Friday according to FedEx tracking. Which means I'll be getting it all installed this weekend. Can't wait for that. I'm trying to find a friend who has a digital video camera so I can show everyone the results. Heh, I can spend a grand on my exhaust but I can't go and buy a camera.
