anyone have this problem?

I have an 04 silverado v8. This has happened twice in the last 4 months. I'm sitting at a light, traffic starts to move, I give it some gas and nothing. The engine revs but not like normal, kind of like a slow rev. than all of a sudden, the rear end hits and everything is back to normal. It is still under warrenty but I haven't talked to the service tech yet. I will do that today. Anyone have an idea what the problem is. Thanks

Do not delay and get that puppy to the dealer! Seriously, let them worry about it, and fight them every inch of the way if you have to. Now, that being said, these trucks have what's called "abuse mode" in the computer, which KILLS your timing if you give it hard throttle from a dead stop. http://www.gmfullsize.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29148
Scroll down to the 4th post on the page t see a nice graphic of what abuse mode does, but go ahead and read the whole post there. I'm not saying that this problem is abuse mode related, but abuse mode is something you should be aware of.

Same problem here with my 2004 5.3 extended cab. has happened twice so far....seems to "slam" into gear and then everything is fine.
Both times were not a result of a fast accelleration from the light.

Let me know if you find out anything.

Re: anyone have this problem?

mine has done this a few times as well. 2004 4.8L but it's very seldom, and i haven't noticed any ill effects.

would suck off the line though.

Just heard from the service tech. My truck is ready. There was a program upgrade to correct the transmission shifting. Seems on occasion, it wouldn't down shift from 2nd to 1st hense when i would give it gas, it would not rev up because it had not down shifted from 2nd. than when it would downshift, I had the bang than it would take off. -- Just picked it up and it seems to shift better. Service tech said what I described is almost exactly what the update said.

I just purchased a 2005, Z71 Std Cab,5.3L. I have had this to happen 3 times over the past 3 weeks. First time I was pulling out at a red light and truck would not respond at all, as if it had stalled, then after a couple seconds it started moving. Second time I was pulling out at red light and it hesitated then all at once BANG.....it took off. Third time Pulling out at a intersection I came close to getting hit. When I tried to pull out it felt like something was holding me back or as if it was in high gear. What really sux is I just bought this truck May 22nd and only have 2,000 mile on it. The first 1,400 miles were like Cadillac......now all this and the Truck has started the dreaded CLUNK about 60-70% of the time when shifting.

I went by the dealer and told them about the clunking and hesitation and they told me the clunking was normal and as far as the hesitaion/stalls, "Dealer Quoted" ....can't really pin point that....we would have to drive it and see if it would do it for us.

Just take it to the dealer and tell them to update the computer

My 2005 does the same thing. One time right in front of the dealer. However I had the most recent sotware update and it still occured, so the dealer labelled it 'normal'.

Re: anyone have this problem?

so wuts up wit this abuse mode anyways? mines an 01 so maybe this doesnt even apply to my truck, but i do like to "use" the truck's torque from stoplight to stoplight every now and then(u guys can decide for urselves wut i mean by that haha).this sounds like somethin that would be detrimental to any kind of drag racing-like activities. is there a way around it? pcm tune im guessing?

I bought 2, 04, Silverados that were demo about 3 months ago. they had around 7000 miles on each both have been in the shop for repairs. yesterday 07/22/05 we picked up my wifes truck up they rebuilt the trans. they said it was contamanated with alum. shavings. it only has 11000 on it now

she had the same thing happen stopped at a stop sign wouldn't go then jumped in gear. get a good service writer ours had them pull the trans. thats how they found it. hope you still are under warranty.

good luck

Re: anyone have this problem?

It could also be called Torque Management. Which kills most of your take off power from the factory. Since the factory trannys are so crappy, they added this to retard the timing when your scceletaring very heavy from a dead stop to keep you from frying the tranny. It also pulls timing during certain driving conditions I guess that could be abusive. My 99 did this when I was turning around one day on the 4-lane and I almost got hit b/c the truck hardley moved. After my tune and getting some of this torque management removed, it hasnt done it since.
