th350 or 400 instead of 4l60e

i have a 95 k1500 z71 with the 4l60e. would it be possible to switch from the 4l60e to either a th350 or a th400 on this truck? if not, what would some good mods be to the 4l60e to prevent it from losing 2nd and 4th gears?
