Looking to buy an IS300

Whats up? Right now i have a 93 base 3000gt that im gonna be selling this week. Great car just to much money on repairs and to many miles. Anyway i wanted to go luxury/sport so i started checking out the IS. I think their nice and i've liked them for awhile. Gonna try and test drive one this week. Anyway is it possible to fine a decent one under 15k and under 50,000 miles? I've seen a couple on auto trader for around 14 but their rare. Also i would be getting an 01 or 02, iv'e read the reviews on them but is there anything i should be aware of? My main concern is reliability since Mitsubishi isnt to great with that but im pretty sure the Lexus would have no problem? Id like to get a white one and put some nice rims on, maybe turbo it in the future if i have the money. Also i know 01's were just automatic if i had the chance for an 02 should i get the manual? I mean if im just gonna be cruisin id prolly stay auto but then again automatic gets boring fast. Also are they fun to drive? Any input helps. Thanks.

Re: Looking to buy an IS300

Good luck finding one that cheap. My brother just bought one that was a 2001 and it had 54000 miles on it and he ended giving 18900 for it. If i where you i would go with the manual. I personally think that manuals are so much more fun than a automatic. As far as are the fun to drive. Yes

Re: Looking to buy an IS300

Oh another thing i forgot to mention. If you want a 5 speed look at 2002 and newer they didn't make 5 speeds in the 2001 IS3000

Re: Looking to buy an IS300

These are great cars - well built, fun to drive, and pretty much trouble free. As people trade in their IS300 on the new ones, you should be able to get one near the price range you are looking. A couple things:

- Keep up with maintenance schedule. Change fluids and what not as recommended.
- 17" tires are expensive.
- Front brake pads seem to last about 30k miles. Rears about twice that.
- They are lousy in the snow, even with traction control. If you drive in snow, plan on a set of winter tires.
- Check out the forums on IS300.NET for additional buyer info.
