96 sonoma will not start or dies on me at random!

have a 1996 GMC Sonoma that is giving me troubles. It is a 4 cyl. 5 speed stick. Some times I drive it and the truck runs just fine, but other times I drive it and will die when at a stop light or at low RPM!

When I say it dies on me I do not get a ENG light or anything of that sort. The oil LVL is good, full tank of fuel. At first I thaught I might have some water in my tank. I put some heat and filled the tank up with high octane gas. But the problem is still there. I have had it happen to me any time during the day from the first time I try to start it in the morning to any time during the day. Other days it works fine for up to a week or so.

One thing I have noticed is that when I try to start it and it acts up it will turn over fine but does not act like it is getting fuel! It will just turn over and over with no ignition. The reason I say it acts like it is not getting fuel is becuse if I push down on the gas petal it will start up with no problem but if I let off of the gas it will die. I try to start it again and same thing it will turn over but no ignition, push on the gas and it starts. If I come back later it might just start up fine and be ok for the rest of the day other times it gives me more greef!

I have no idea what is going on with this thing!

I have looked at what other problems people have had like this but this seems just a bit different.

Any helpfull hints would be helpfull.

UPDATE I R2'ed fuel filter no luck on fixing the problem.
I read in my hanes manuel that the oil pressure sensor can cut fuel off it it gets to low. Just how low does the oil pressure have to be to allow the fuel to be cut off? I know my trucks oil pressure has a flux and it gets worse when the truck is hot. but I have had this problem even on a cold start up. GERRRRR
