problem with the alternator? ford escort 96
Hi
i have a escort 96 automatic 5 door. about some days a have the batery lighter on. i change with a new batery but after 2 day is the same. i put the multimeter to the batery and i have 14.5 V when the engine is on. the batery is very hot and have some smell. sorry for my english thanks |

It sounds like your voltage regulator is bad and is overcharging the battery, that is why it is hot to the touch. I am not exactly sure where it is on that model escort but it should not be hard to find. Not expensive to replace either!

I believe the voltage regulator is inside the alternator. 14.5 volts is normal. My guess is it's a shorted plate inside the battery. Try another battery.
