Noises

I've recently acquired a vw golf 2.0 MY 2000. Just wanted to make sure the noises it makes are ok.

1. Accelerating - a silentish whiring increases in pitch as car accelerated but not in loudness

2. At a certain speed pressing on the accelerator lightly makes a crackling noise from front of car, rather like a current on neon lights at a dodgy kebab store, not as loud though (again silentish).

Of the two i think the second one is of concern. Any pointers?

The whirring noise is common, my golf made the same sound before i got my intake (now it makes a whistling sound....)

2. A crackling noise doesn't sound good...Get someone to check all your wiring and grounds, i guess, i'm not sure about that one.
