1g project car
Hey, my friend Mike is very possibly buying a 91 TSI AWD on Thursday or Friday, but the car needs some work. It says it needs a new clutch and front left axle. I just finished my search and I was left with more questions than answers. Are either of them hard to replace? Would it require any special tools (we have a jack, jackstands, air compressor with impact gun, and like a 300 pc mechanics tool set)? What about the clutch. I read about the ACT 2100 and 2600 in my search, but dont know which one he should get. He is planning on running between 380-420 hp, which would be better? Would you guys recommend a fly wheel at the same time as a clutch? He is planning on driving it until late fall/ winter and then we are going to park it and start the mod process. Also, the car is a 91 TSI AWD, 5 spd, 120k miles, bad clutch, bad axle, in primer, and unmodified except for an Apexi N1 exhaust... is $800 a fair price? Thanks in advance for any and all help.

The axel shouldnt be too bad I believe. My one friend had is FWD 91 NA replaced right in his driveway. I think the 2100 clutch holds up good from what I have read. Someone else who has more experience with them might be able to help you better with that. I'm sure everyone including me will agree that 800 dollars for this car is very fair. Good luck.

Re: 1g project car
i've heard some bad reviews about the ACT clutches lately. i think they had a bad batch there for awhile but they might have gotten everything straightened out. you might want to look into some other brands too though.

Re: 1g project car
Should all be easy with impact gun and all those tools....I would get a ACT 2600 since you don't need to worry about crankwalk. I haven't heard anything about a bad batch of ACT's...But I can vouch for them I have 2100 and its awsome

All right, thanks guys. I talked to him yesterday (Sunday) and he had a few people coming over today to look at it, but if it doesnt sell hes going to hold it for us. I'm going down to the cities, but he will be out of town when I'm down there so Mike (friend who is buying it) are probably going down to get it Sunday or Monday. If we get it, you'll all definately be hearing about it! Thanks again guys.
