I had the same problem a few months ago. It's located on the front of the engine (end with the belts). It's located on a stunted distributor shaft. The sensor came apart on mine and the sensor and shaft had to be replaced and a used one was nearly as much as a new one. My mechanic said he could replace it but he didn't have the correct computer to align it, so I had to take it the dealer. $537 later I the check-engine light was out, right until the next morning and then another problem reared it's ugly head. You might find someone that works on a lot of Ford's and they might have the correct computer diag. and that might save you a little money. Good luck.
