Re: problem with ignition
will the steering wheel move at all, if so, try just moving it a little to take pressure off the locking mechanism then turning the key while holding the wheel, if the ignition is worn out you might need to jiggle the key while turning it.

Re: problem with ignition
Have you tried a different key? When the keys are worn, they will no longer work. It is more common for the keys to wear out rather than the locks. In 15 years I have gone through 5 keys.

Re: problem with ignition
I have a similar problem on the 89 p/u that I just bought:
I can turn the key to start the truck, however once the key is in the ignition I can't turn it back to the lock position. The only fix has been to disconnect the battery and put it in neutral. This system woks without fail, however .... who wants to do that to turn the truck off? I called my local Toyota service dpt. and they said to check the neutral switch, ignition switch, and brake switch. I'm a do-it-yourself-guy, and I have no idea how to locate, fix or replace any of those parts. Any help or alternative ideas? |
