Where do I begin with Impound Lot B2600i
I've got a 92 B2600i that I know no history about (Impound Lot Auction). I decided to buy it because it had oil in the crankcase and the interior was obviously taken care of by a person who cared about their Mazda (the cops won't let you check much more). It turns over but there seems to be very little resistance and its missing that chug, chug and vibration you get normally (the engine/belts just spin). The plugs look OK and there is only a little scarring on the cap and rotor. I can see the pistons moving up and down through the spark plug holes when it turns over and I can smell gas but there was little or no compression in the first 2 cylinders, I didn't check the others after that because that seemed odd that 2 cylinders would both be shot. I'm guessing timing belt but can't see where the cover is to check and I'm really only guessing. Any ideas how best to logically trouble shoot this mystery truck? Thanks for any help you can offer.

No Belts in a 92 B2600i , they use a chain. More then likely its not broken or you would hear the splap of it when you turn it over. You said you smell gas , but did you check for a spark ?
As well as that when you turn it over do you hear... a .... sound like air passing through the engine ... i dont know ( remember that is ) if that is an interferance engine or not. If it is you might have a fair amount of engine work ahead of you. www.lordco.com Wollf |

Re: Where do I begin with Impound Lot B2600i
Do a compression check. Pretty easy. If no compression in adjacent cylinders, then the head gasket is likely shot. This opens a whole other can of worms (possible cracked head, oil in water, water in oil, etc.), but is a logical first place to start. You should also remove the rocker cover and turn the engine over to make sure the valve train is actually working. If not, it might be better to just replace the engine and not worrry about fixing it.
