noisy chain

Hey guys I am a mechanic and have been for years but put a water pump on this 2000 sunfire (2.4 dohc, automatic). then the chain became noisy put on a new tensioner there was nothing wrong with the old one moves freely any way the car runs great but once it warms up chain gets noisy like a diesel, at idle only. Idles at 500 once it gets to 900 quite. I have gone into this thing four times now, so I can do it in 1.5 hours but realy tired of this hate full car, Oh yeh owner she is real cute so I ain't makeing squat. some help please. Jeff

Re: noisy chain

chain streched beyond tensioner limits? how many miles on the chain, are the guides worn bad?

replace the ENTIRE timing chain assembly, including the sprockets (all of them), chain, tensioner, and guides, as well as the gaskets. it should come in a kit, $200 or so from the dealer IIRC.

Re: noisy chain

Chain is good guids are great the problem every one is having is when you take the actual tensioner off it doesn't get a good seal when replaced. since there is no gasget and it is not a perfect macine fit when the oil gets thin it leaks at idle. real pain.
