FSM, spare parts dealers?
I live in Finland, and I have a 96 Chrysler Stratus 2.5 ck Export Edition. I think itīs the Cirrus, but sold with another name outside the US. How can I be sure parts compatibility if ordering spare parts in US.
What is good repair manual and where I can buy it? My previous car was Chevy Caprice 89 with factory service manual and both of them work quite well . Is there a factory service manual available in my Stratus (Cirrus)? What is good spare parts dealer, which means homepages with good informations+pictures, reliable, good quality parts (not the most expensive in town) and so on....? |

I have a 98 Stratus LX, and I live in Argentina. Spare parts are a rip off here, so I buy them in the US and have them sent to me. I save AT LEAST 50% doing that. In some cases I save 75-80%.
Yes, the dealers here are thieves. What I do is call up a Chrysler dealer here, ask him for a quotation on the part and ask them for the part number. Sometimes they don't want to give me the part number so I tell them that I'm shopping for the best price and I need to be sure that both dealers are quoting the same part. Another way to get the part number is to say that their price is way too high for some parts, and that I have no other option than buying the parts abroad. Usually the poor emplyee is sympathetic and will give the info to you even if he's not supposed to. Then with that part number I shop around on the net for an aftermarket replacement. eBay is a good place to start. I bought a timing belt and a water pump from www.partsdinosaur.com with excellent service. If I need an original spare part, I buy it from a dealer in Miami who will send it to a courrier service, and then it will be sent here to Argentina. There are some parts that a US dealership will not be able to sell to you since they are marked since your vehicle is "for export". For example, your immobilizer unit, which is different from the one used on a car for the US market. |
