If anything I think I would attempt to pull it from the top, although, when my 93 tranny went out I just left it set up at our apartments main office. Still setting there 4 months later with expired plates. I've only pulled transmissions from back wheel drive cars and trucks, so I am not absolutely certain if that's the way to go. It may help to get a repair manual for procedures reguarding removing the transmission. That's a pretty big job, fwd cars are a PITA!!!!
Fixing the problem your self is a great idea, considering to have someone else do it, it's $1,200, or sometimes even more. The down fall is that these cars are notorious for bad transmissions. Which basically means you could be right where you started in 6 months. That's why I just left mine, if it get's towed who cares!

I mean it's a nice car, definately worth fixing, but not if it's going to break again. I just can't tolerate that for a 93. I think I am just mad cause my Taurus was a daily driver, now I have to drive my Ranger 2.9L V6 with a custom ground drag cam to work everyday. Wakes me up really good, but not good on gas at all.
