I have a spare 87 GM 10 bolt rearend with drum brakes attached, and i was wondering if it was possible to convert to disc brakes? Are there any kits out there? Also, (preferly for 89) where on the axle is the 10 digit number, which verfies what type of axle you have?

Re: Disc brake conversion??
Sorry Link, 89 can't answer you, ever see 'Goodfellas'?
Opening scene with the dude in the trunk? Well, since 89 disagreed with me and doesn't feel like checking the timing is important, I had Earlsfat send Earl to me, he's keeping 89 company in my trunk

ROFLOL!!! That is one of the best movies i've ever saw. Love that movie. Ray Liota is the man!!! Too bad for 89, though, was hoping he could help me on this one.

Re: Disc brake conversion??
In ref. to your question, even tho I'm not 89, the tag # s/b cast on the diff. housing somewhere logically thinking.

Re: Disc brake conversion??
earlsfat i must apologize, after molesting earl, and making him my bitch in the dark of the trunk, and spending conciderable time and effort eating my way through the back seat of the car, i have returned to answer questions..............
the tag number is on the passenger side axle tube facing the front of the car, youll probly have to use a wire brush to knock off the crud covering it. as far as conversion kits, they are a pretty big pain in the ass, it can be done, but i think id rather swap in a 9 bolt rear end with disk brakes already attached much much easier, and probly cheaper too, and youll have a better rear end to boot. P.S. earl may be walking a little funny for a day or two.

You musta porked someone else's fat dog. ![]() Earl don't get into nothing you can't lift him into, and... let's put it this way... I have to take out both back seats in my wife's van and have to pick the back half of him up to get him in. (If you didn't know what was going on you'd think that I was porking him. ) Vertically he don't move very much... horizontally... he's pretty fast for being the huge pile of ass that he is, and he's sneaky... he'd probably have you face down in the grass and make you do the "walk of shame" if you tried that shit.
