Neutral Safety Switch problem?
I have a 95 Grand AM 3.1 automatic. When I turn the key to start it the radio, lights, and all of the accessories will work but the engine will not turn over. I then will usually have to shake the the shift lever for a few minutes and it will finally start. Also the Park indicator light does not come on, even when the car is running. This problem started happening soon after I had the transmission replaced with a salvage one. I am assuming that the problem is with the neutral safety switch. Can anyone tell me the exact location (I believe it is on the trans) and how to go about fixing it (replacement or adjustment)?

Re: Neutral Safety Switch problem?
It does sound like the neutral safety switch, have you tried putting the car in neutral and starting it? This should help until you have a chance to look at the site posted by Kinfeblade.

There was a safety recall from Pontiac on this. You maybe able to contact a GM dealership and give them the safety recall number, they should be able to fix it for you. To find the saftey recall, do a google search for safety recalls. There is a webpage out there that does not nothing but track recalls. I hope this helps!!

Re: Neutral Safety Switch problem?
Mrfixit gives you an excellent hint, safety recall, if it under recall tell GM to fix it. If not, replace, don't attempt to adjust.
Hiya, Dan, lol. Good to see ya back around!!!!!!!!!!! |
