a/c problem

its a 98 ranger- i have been having problems with the a/c coming out the defrost vents when i am accelerating, then when i let off it comes out the regular vents- today i noticed the a/c coming out the outside door handles, until u open the door- i turned off the the a/c and it quits coming out of course- then i turned it on, and it started coming out the door handles- this is really weird to me- i am driving around coolin the outside- is this somehow related to the problem with a/c coming out of the defrost vents, and then coming out of the regular vents- i need help figuring this 1 out- thanks to all
