Unhappy I drink too much

Well it's happened again...
Since the end of May I have been out of control with my boozing.
Friday night I drank too much once more!
So it was a rainy night and my friends wanted to have a party/get together. So we do, except nobody is really showing up, I guess the weather was a downer. However I decided to drink heavily as I always due, but really I think this time I lost it. I was pounding rum straight up. I didn't yell at anyone or cause any damage or even get belligerent (thank goodness). However, I got so hammered I decided I wanted to walk down the block and take a shit at the deli parking lot. This is like 1am I don't remember any of this. I stumbled out the door. My friend told me I looked like I was trying to walk straight, but ended up walking diagonally and fell into a bush. Then I ran down the street to the deli. My friends had to come chase me and stop me. Then I went back to my car and ate my leftover White Castle. I also tried to get my keys out and for some reason drive away. My friend had to pull me out of my car and throw me on the ground. I remember NONE OF THIS. I don't remember leaving the house and walking away. Somehow though all of this I didn't even puke. Amazing. But now that I've gotten so stupid drunk to the point of getting ready to drive away and not remember it, I think it's time to stop drinking. Or at least driving somewhere and drinking. I can always crash at my friends place, but I have no clue as to why I would want to drive away. So I'm just gonna call it quits for a while.

Sounds like you need to figure out where your limits are and find the self control to stop drinking once you start approaching that out of control blackout state. I've never been a huge drinker myself, but I've gotten really excessively drunk enough times and had enough bad experiences both during and after the fact that it just isn't worth it. As I've gotten older it's become easier to know when to call it a night.

If you can just stop drinking for a while that's probably a good idea, but you should probably figure out what makes you want to drink to such excess when you do have a few. Does alcoholism or any other kind of addictive tendency run in your family? If so, watch out...

You're also lucky to have friends who will watch out for your drunk ass and keep you from getting behind the wheel like that.

I feel you. Since probably the beginning or May or end of April I think there have only been 2 nights i know for sure i haven't had a drink. Tonight being one of them. I've been buzzed ever night. I started really thinking about why i have. I think im subconsciously drinking to deal with the depression ive been going through. It makes it that much easier to go to sleep at night having so many things weighing on my mind.

Re: I drink too much

I drink too much and I know it, I drink every night, but I dont drink if I know I have to drive or anything like that. I am a responsible alcoholic. You just have to get it in your mind to not drive, I know you dont want to fuck up your car or get a DUI so dont ever even consider driving as an option.

Youve got good friends for not letting you drive off, thank them for it. I have a friend who for a while insisted on driving after he got smashed, so every time he drank as soon as he got drunk enough to where I knew he wouldnt be cool to drive any time that night, I locked his keys in his car and let him call his dad to bring the spare key in the morning. After a while he finally gave up on trying to drive when he was drunk.

To the people who said AA is an option, if you were serious, the guy is 22, he drinks with his friends, he doesnt need help in quitting drinking, he just needs to control himself a little hes young and likes to have a good time, yippie!

I guess its probably wrong for me to be reading this while slightly intoxicated....

Re: I drink too much

I don't drink alone, so that's good I guess. But I don't know why I get so out of control when I go to a party at my friends house. It's not even when I go out to bars or anything, or a random party where I am not familiar with too many people. I guess it's in my subconcious that the only way I can have fun is my getting plowed when I'm around my friends. I know my limits, but already multiple times this summer I've knowingly surpassed them. When I'm doing anything I can get fidgety, so I need to be doing something. When I'm at a party I need to be doing something, so I grab a drink and drink it. My plan now is to have a bottle of water or soda, anything to keep me from drinking alcohol in excessive amounts.

Re: I drink too much

yes we get drunk everyday, no we are not alcoholics. Nothing wrong with drinking too much as long you don't turn into an asshole or get too much "beer balls." Peace-

Re: I drink too much

here's my joke for the subject, then the serious matter.

"I'm not an alcoholic, i'm a drunk. Alcoholics go to meetings"

for the serious part now:
usually when i go out i roll with about 3 or 4 people in my car. it's our little crew, everyone knows it too. anyways, i turned 21 two months ago and i was scared that i was going to drink way too much now that i can legally buy booze. i used to drink a shit load when i was like 19, 20. it got bad, REAL bad, i noticed my grades dropping and everything. i decided to stop for a while. even though this is a great and realistic idea, it sort of backfired on me. for the little while i was drinkin heavily my tolerance was built up so much then when i quit it rapidly declined. i was at a party and i turned into Will Ferrell's "Frank the Tank" from Old School. i drank so much and made a complete ass out of myself. finally i learned my lesson. now a days if i go to a party i usually analyze the situation. If i'm driving then i know i can't drink a whole lot or i'll stay the night or something like that. if i'm not driving then i'll drink more than i would if i am driving however i still have to keep a watchful eye over my friends seeing how sometimes they think they can drive and i'll usually sober up and drive us all home.

as far as not knowing why you drink around your friends, i have the same problem sometimes, i think it's a subconcious peer pressure type thing goin on.who knows, this is why i'm not going into psychology or something like that.
