1992 Civic EX has no EGR?

I heard it doesn't have one? It is true?

I have a pinging problem and I want to see if it could be the cause.

Nope, only Civic with an EGR in 92-95 is the VX.

pinging is usually the gas your using. try a higher octane.

but even if he does use higher octane the problem is still ther. check ur timing it might be too advance.

EX compression is not high enough to warrant "high" octane gas. Check you timing, retard you distributor so if it helps. Have you looked at your spark plugs?

timing will be set today, I just wanted to see if there was an EGR valve as well.

Plugs were changed to the factory specified colder plug. Made no difference.

All plugs made the same pinging.

I'd say your timing has slipped out then.

Yea, my thoughts too, thanks for the info though.

I didn't want to go through all of this and find out it was the EGR valve clogged or something.

Well, the timing is perfect and I back pressure tested the cat and it still pings.

Could this be low fuel pressure brought on by a bad fuel pressure regulator?

Turn your distributor all the way towards the front of the car, retard it all the way. If the pinging goes away, push it back forward, try it, no ping, forward some more, etc.... till it pings then back it off a bit, retighten. That could work, and if it does, it's only a bandaid really.

Check the FPR pressurre should be 280-330 kPa(40-47 psi).

Turning it towards the front advances the timing. When timing it we confirmed this.

The timing is set perfectly. Must be a fuel pressure problem.
