Weird 98 ATX Problems

I just drove 1000 miles around O.C. Maryland and back to Pittsburgh in my wifes 98 with ~65K miles. In drive the transmission will not operate at all. By manually nursinging it from 1 to 2 and using the OD override button to force 3rd and accellerating to ~50 mph and releasing the OD override button the car will shift into 4th. The car will operate in cruise after a fashion except if the car has to recover too much speed the tranny will disengage and the rev's go up pretty alarmingly. Any Suggestions. No warning lights. Actually sifts pretty well if you get the hang of it (my car is a manual PT Cruiser). Thanks in advance. Cliffc

i dont know much specifically about the CD4E trans. If it was a MTX-75 issue, id might be able to help you. Id suggest posting over on contour.org in the troubleshooting. This site pretty much blows when it comes to knowledgebase. Theres only a few us, including myself, that lurk here from contour.org to lead people to the real contour site.
