Angry Transmission feels like its in neutral while driving

94 concorde has problems, last night it began running rough, like a bad plug or something, all of a sudden as I was driving at 30 mph it seemed to shift into neutral, I acclerated but it just revved, for 10 seconds or so. It then shifted back into drive. I pulled off and checked the T. fluid, oil, PS fluid and radiator, ALL was good. On my way home it did it again , I'm driving and it revves like it in neutal, then engages. I made it home but the engine is rough and seems to be missing and losing power. Also it is running at very high RPM's 3-4 and at times almost into the red. Any advice will be apprecited.

Re: Transmission feels like its in neutral while driving

first, the slipping, how many miles do you have on the transmission? If it's more than 150,000 sad to say, it's on its last leg getting ready to go. If it less than that, you're ok. Along that line, when was the last time you had the transmission serviced? When it was serviced, do you know if they put Mopar ATF +4, the recommended transmission fluid for all Chrysler vehicles? That's something to investigate.

The high idle and the roughness you experience with your engine, that sounds like your have a vacuum leak. Which engine do you have? If you have the 3.5 V6, they have a very common problem of the intake manifold gaskets slipping around the #5 cylinder. Next time you have it started up, open the hood and put your ear to the engine and try hear for any hissing sounds, that indicates that you have a leak in your intake manifold.

On my 95 Concorde I have this same problem every few years, Try this,
On the passengers side firewall in the engine compartment there is 4 wired plug connectors. Disconnect them and clean them out then see if it fixes your problem. They control both the tranny & fuel injectors.
