2001 Pathfinder rear window release?
Just got my 01 after driving my 95 into the ground. Didn't get a manual with this one...is there no way to release the rear window except with the key? I've looked high and low for a button. There's a fuse for the rear window, so I assume there's a switch somewhere, but it's well hidden. Any tips from you 01 owners?

I have been unable to find a factory switch either, but I think I found the next best thing. I would the wiring color coding and diagram for the 98 and newer power door lock system. I have added an enlarged detail picture of the back door key cylinder switch.
Or I can give you a full page image. I would recomend using a photo viewer with zoom though. Go to: http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=main/...4294.jpg&s=f10 With this you can add a switch on the dash or hidden remotely (under the bumper?) I would at least recommend cutting and switching the Yellow and LT Green wires. This should change the function of the key so you don't lock all your doors before you open the window with the key. It will UNlock all the doors, then open the window. Preventing accidental lockout. |

Re: 2001 Pathfinder rear window release?
Thanks for the diagram -- very helpful. I'll try switching the two wires as you suggest.
If I install a switch in the dash, do you know where is the easiest place to access the Lt Green wire? From the diagram, it looks like the other side of the dash switch would be wired to the black, or ground? |

Re: 2001 Pathfinder rear window release?
Are you looking to add a window release switch? To do that you would want to access the GRN/BLK wire at the trunk, i'm not sure where the "smart entrance control unit" is located. The wires are behind the plastic cover over the inside of the tailgate. It should just pry off, don't forget the bolts behind the handle on the inside. All you would need to do is run a single wire from that GRN/BLK wire to the dash, or where ever you want to put the switch. Than the ither side of the momentary switch to Ground, any metal frame surface should work.

Re: 2001 Pathfinder rear window release?
Yes, looking to add a dash switch to open the glass hatch. Was hoping I wouldn't have to run a wire all the way from the trunk to the dash, but rather just find it under the dash somewhere. Maybe it's easier, as you suggest, to hide it under the bumper or something. (Pretty hard on any switch to be out in the elements though.)
Also, you say Grn/Blk but from the diagram, that appears to be related to the tamper switch, not the unlock. Don't I want the Lt Grn wire? |

Re: 2001 Pathfinder rear window release?
If you save the full size diagram and trace the LT GRN wire back to the "Smart Entrance Control Unit" at the upper left of the diagram, that wire corelates to KEY CYL SW (UNLK). The GRN/BLK corelates to GLASS HTCH UNLK SW, that is the one you want. As far as running a wire to the front, that is just the simple way to do it without finding the control unit. If you can find it, either, by searching, or asking a mechanic, you could switch it there. Judging by the rest of the connections going to it, it will probably be located under the dash somewhere. Happy hunting, if you find it, please let me know where you found it and what it looks like. As far as "tamper switch" goes, on the 96-97 patty diagram it is listed as "temper switch" one is a typo, but I think it means it is a temporary switch. Also, they make several enviromental capable switches, ask at you local autoparts store.

Re: 2001 Pathfinder rear window release?
Well, switching the two wires seems to have worked -- mostly. It sill sporadically locks the hatch (not every time!) but the doors stay unlocked.
I found the block under the dash but I haven't tried to splice into the wires yet -- as you can imagine, it's hard to reach, so I've been unmotivated to try. Maybe when the weather cools off a little. I'll post the results when I have them. Thanks again! |
