1992 MPV lacks power. Really need help Please!

I have a Mazda 1992 MPV,V6 that I have just finished doing the Head gasket on, ( lots of fun this one is). I have good compression, valve guide seals done etc. The engine idles, and runs fantastic now. It's quiet, and whips along on the hiway at 140km per hour, and you can't tell it's running. The problem is, when encountering any type of hill, it has no power. The only way to get up the hill, is to hammer the pedal to floor, and the rpms have to jump to 5000 to accelerate up the hill. It's like the pedal has response in the first inch, nothing through the middle, and acceleration in the last inch. I have changed the cap and rotor, new plugs, new fuel filter, done the head gasket, and now I'm stuck. Does anyone have any ideas on a solution? I haven't checked the pcv valve - could this cause the above problem? I'm going to look into the coil, but I'm pretty much stuck. Any suggestions anyone has would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks so much in advance for any help you may have.

Kevin.

Problem after going throught EVERYTHING else turned out to be the catalytic convertor. We weren't getting good airflow through her. Cut it out with a torch and replaced it with straight pipe. Ran much stronger, but wife didn't appreciate the sounds it made. Nascar sunday morning in the soccer mom van. Lol. Added a resonator in the mix, and she runs like a dream now. They are really dependent on back pressure. 2 mufflers and a cat in a row. You can lose the cat (if permitted in your area) and replace with a resonator.
Hope this helps...

i have a similer problem too, but my 1990 3.0L MPV lost power only after i installed an after market ignition module, I then put the old module back in and found there was more power, only until the module craped out again. i phone the manufacture's of the module and they told me that there module's com from mazda, they replaced it but it made no difference
