I've been going through the Forum for a while now with no help. I just got my Jeep and it's been fine til tonight it started acting like it didn't want to shift. I don't know where to start and my funds are limited...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

First thing to check is the transmission fluid level.
- Transmission at operating temp, vehicle level. drive it for 10 minutes or more at highway speed (summer) for the most accurate level check.
- Engine running, Transmission in neutral

When you pull the dipstick, notice the color and smell of the ATF. If it is a really strong "burnt" like smell and super dark in color, you probably need major work.

It's kinda hard to tell with the fluid that Jeep uses cause it darkens and odors up naturally with age.

If you can get help to drop the pan and have a look in the bottom you can tell some more about it. Most trany's will have some wear materials but a failure will be very obvious.

Only use MOPAR ATF+4 transmission fluid in this transmission.

The transfer case behind the transmission may specify some other oil - use in only in the transfer case.

The powertrain control module tells the transmission when to shift but the solinoids in the trany do the work so there are possibilities there.

Not sure about transmission failure codes for that year and model. Someone help out and fill in the blanks here on this.......

Most all the failure outcomes are bad news money wise with auto transmission problems if you can't do the work yourself. Sorry bout that but ask away with your questions as they come to mind!!!!!!!!!
