Cold air intake?

In the 944 the airbox hose goes right to the wheel well, and gets cold air from there. But I was wondering if adding an after market filter and removing the airbox would make any difference. Any help would be nice. ^^ Thxs.

Re: Cold air intake?

A cone filter will do nothing for performance. Some people have said they gained 1 or 2 horses, some say they lost them. I have one because the engine sounds amazing with it on there. Porsche spent alot of money developing the stock setup, so it's not bad. The only negative of stock is that if you hit a REALLY deep puddle it could suck water up the tube.

it dosent change the way the exaust note sounds but it allows intake manifold pulses to sound out through the filter. its an interesting sound and if you would like to hear it jsut remove the upper half of the airbox as if oyu were to change the filter but keep the filter in there, start the motor and give the throttle cam a few twists and see if you like the sound or not. however i cant reccomend getting the aftermarket conical filter for any performance reason. it will only take in the very hot air from the motor compartment, and hot air being less dense then cold will naturally restrict power. really the only way to increase power in the 944/924s 2.5 liter motor is to convert to a mass-air setup and get rid of the tiny inlet bosch air meter. not only does this give you nearly infinet tuning possibilitys, but it opens up the intake tract from a 1 inch by 2 1/2 inch (approximatly) opening to a 65 MM and up round opening. increases in airflow are well above 150%. to get more power out of the stock airbox you can take a piece of 3 inch tubing and run it from behind the front bumper to the inlet tube of the airbox on the fender. i used a short piece of vinyl dryer vent hose as it is realitivly strong and meant for moving large volumes of air. having it exposed by moving the bumper as far right as possible will creat a ram air effect at speed and force more air through the meter creating more power.

Re: Cold air intake?

Yeah, the two sounds are very similar. I've been planning to get a smaller filter and route it to behind the driver's side headlight. Someday I'll fabricate a hole in the headlight cover for air to come in. Probably won't do anything though.

The only time a cone filter takes in hot air is when stopped & just idling...

At speed it makes up the difference with being able to flow more air then the stock restrictive box.

Yes, it sounds better too!

Re: Cold air intake?

Over the last 2 years i have fabricated a system that has dramatically increased torque, horsepower, and throttle response it consisted of the nose panel from gt-racing.com and some 3 inch tubing and obviously k&n filters That and a cat less 3 inch exhaust to a Borla muffler put me in a 0-60 in 5.9 seconds And stock Performance was quoted as 0 - 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.8 seconds.

i've thought of changing mine. i like how you used the old airbox support holes for support of the a/f sensor.

looks like an S or S2 motor probably just regular S

Two is useless.

and as to the sound, it sounds fucking amazing when the intake "music" is not muffled by the box. if anyone has ever heard a Vtec car, it sounds like that 100% of the time.
