maintenance for 99 taurus

Hi everybody, my mom has a 99 taurus and just recently had the oil changed at 37,000. She was told its time to have the trans axle done and clean the fuel injection at this time. Anyway is something I can do for her, because they want $100 for it at the local oil change place. Any help or advice would be helpfull, Thanks.

Re: maintenance for 99 taurus

no fuel injection service needs to be done for 100k miles.

servicing the transmission can be done any time between 36k miles and 50k miles, but make sure it is not done using a "power flush" process, powerflushes break transmissions. Either just have the tranny pan removed and the fluid in it thrown out and the filter replaced and topped off with fluid or that they flush it by running it with a line removed until the fluid coming out is clear (expensive because it uses alot of fluid and takes more time)
