Engine Fan Won't Start
I have a 1998 cavalier, and my problem is that the engine fan will not start. It happened once before, but that time the fuse blew and it was easy to fix. However this time the fuse is fine and the fan just will not turn on, even when the A/C is on. It causes my car to become extremely warm. I'm ok with dealing with cars but not great. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot and/or repair it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You |

Re: Engine Fan Won't Start
Trace the wires from the fan to make sure nothing's stripped and grounding out. Double check the fuses. If those both fail, strip the positive line and give it power to make sure the fan itself is still good. If not, then the fan itself needs to be replaced.
If none of those work, come back here...then I'll go stare at my own car and see if I think of anything

Re: Engine Fan Won't Start
I just had to replace the radiator fan motor on my 01 z24. You could try tracing the wires to see if they're stripped or anything, but your fan motor probably went out, because those wires don't really get stripped that often, let alone that easily. My fan motor cost me $57.99 plus tax, so you might just have to break down and buy a new one.

Re: Engine Fan Won't Start
Make sure you try the relay too. $12 or so at any auto parts store. Just take the old one out and get the same one.
