Re: 160 thermostat

personally i would stick with your factory thermostat, or run a 200 or 180 at the least. 160 thermostats tend to make the car take longer to warm up, especially annoying in winter. and may not allow the car to enter closed loop operation.

Re: Re: 160 thermostat

======================================
This is a subject I would really like to talk about... Closed loop mode, O2 sensors and fuel pressure. Who here has an adjustable fuel pressure regulator? Those who do, I'd like to know if they are running with the O2 sensor hook-up, or un-hooked....??? This is something that I've tried both ways... because once the vehicle enters closed loop, won't this counter-act fuel pressure settings... I've run both of my IROCs with and without O2 sensors, and honestly performance wise I can't tell much difference... Moderator, what is your opinion on this?

Something else I'd like your opinion (or anyone elses) is a problem I'm having with my '90 IROC 5-speed..... Ok, first off I have a pre '89 pro built SCCA T5 tranny which is not "VSS" (vehicle speed sensor) equipped...(keep this in mind)... Also I have an exhaust leak, nothing real major, but enough to make the car backfire when letting off the gas when the car is in gear (not when I pop it in neutral though) and when it does backfire the engine light comes on and the engine stalls... I ran codes and got coes for the o2 sensor and vehicle speed sensor. So I replaced the O2 sensor with a new sensor and still the same thing. So I was thinking the vehicle speed sensor was the cause... but why the hell does it only do this after a backfire...?

Re: Re: 160 thermostat

I don't know why it's only coming on after it backfires, but when I didn't have the VSS hooked up in my '91, I would be driving for a few minutes, and as soon as it entered closed loop, the light popped on.

Do you have any problems with the car stalling when you come to a stop?

Re: 160 thermostat

for doubble, tripple, and yes, even quadrouple posts, there is a little hyperlink down there called edit/delete, and you can clean up your excess posts better than bounty.

with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator you dont really upset the computer that much because its designed to correct itself. With the higher fuel pressure and the stock pulse width you would have a rich mixture to be sure, however the computer would detect the rich mixture and shorten the pulse width to correct it. the higher fuel pressure would not set any codes because the factory setup does not have a fuel pressure sensor on it that i am aware of, so it wouldnt even know the difference. As far as the O2 sensor not affecting performance, my only guess is that the car ran in the "limp home" mode which is pretty hard to detect seat of the pants wise, shit, my IROC actually ran BETTER in limp home mode for a while until i got a bunch of old components replaced lol. so unless you were at the strip and could compair your quarter mile times and ET's you probly wouldnt know it was happening. but you would probly notice a massive decrease in gas mileage.

as far as the VSS code only being set after a backfire..... shit i dunno bout that one.
