climate control problems

I have a 98 Bonneville and i am starting to have problems with the climate control. When it does work it doesnt stay at a constant fan speed. Sometimes it doesnt work at all. Its doesnt matter if auto is on or not. It seems to work more when its colder outside. I disconnected the fan and checked the voltage there and there was only 1.3 volts no matter how high the fan was set. I have the digital climate control not the knobs. I removed the fan and that looked fine. Please help guys. Anybody else have this porblem.

My guess would be the Blower Control Module if you are getting that low of a reading at the blower. At Hi fan setting, you should read full battery voltage at the blower. Before you go replacing it though, you might want to test the input from the HVAC programmer. My 93 manual shows the wire to be GRY/BLK and the voltage to be varible between 2v (LO) to 8v (HI). My 97 manual is at a buddy's house so I'll have to see if it says anything different.

The BCM is located under the Maxifuse/relay center in the engine compartment. It fastens to the top of the AC box (where the evap core and blower motor are on the firewall)

Which one is the blower control module. Is it the grey relay looking things. The cover for the fuses doesnt have a diaghram for the relays and fuses.

The BCM is below the relays on the blower housing. The easiest way to locate it is to follow the wire loom from the blower motor connection up under the relay center.

I have a 90 bonnie with the same problem.I have been trying to track down a used BCM for 2 weeks .The price for a new one is NUTS, trust me,you do not want to go with a new one. You can pick one up at a junk yard for $25 just remember, to get it off the same year Bonnie with climate control. The same year with just A/C WILL NOT WORK!

I dug a BCM from a salvage car and it's still in use today in my 93. They are rather expensive new so salvage may be the way to go.

Part numbers will differ from year to year. 90 is different from 93 which is different from 97 so do some homework. I like to use www.gmpartsdirect.com for new parts and their search function. The 90 will probably be tough but anything newer than 95 should be OK. I think I have still have one from a 97 donor car but will have to check.

would that also be cooling fan control module or climate control module?

The cooling fans are controled by the ECM but the relays are in the maxifuse/relay center just above the Blower Control Module location. The HVAC programmer is the controller for the Electronic Climate Control but it lives above the passenger's hush panel inside the car.

Just wanted to say thanks to all that helped me with this problem. It saved me lots of money. The dealer wanted $550 for the part and i told him we was crazy. I got it off of gmpartsdirect.com for $86. Thanks again for the help.

The dude at the parts counter must not have eaten his Wheaties that day and looked up the wrong part. The dealer pricing isn't that far off of GMPD's.

It was 550 for a brand new one and 140 for the reman.
