Question Potential for an N/A?

I've been bouncing the idea around of doing the whole FWD/TT swap. I want to, it's just finding everything you need. Not only do you need the whole motor and stuff... but fuel pump and things of the sort that you don't get if you buy a front clip. So then another idea came to mind. What if you were to completely build an N/A? What could one expect to fetch for numbers?

I keep on juggling these options. I don't want to spend a whole crap-load of cash to build up a motor and fall short of what I could get with a TT swap for less cash (or equal to). There are a few people that are ignorant towards 3/S's here. I would like to do something about that.

Thoughts?

Re: Potential for an N/A?

I think in the range of 250hp. With just doing some mods to the engine while its being built.

Start with a 4 bolt main.
Run 11:1 Pistons<---10 extra hp
Mod the exhaust 7-8 hp
Mod the intake 7-8 hp

Modding the heads by adding larger valves and porting and polishing..10hp
Larger injectors to compensate for the larger valves and better flow exhaust.

hmm, you might hit 280hp eventually.
Use an underdrive pulley to get back some lost Hp.

THe thing is your basing the final hp numbers on the "stock hp rating." The reason its in quotes is because 99% of us have come to the conclusion that Mitsubishi overrated the DOHC NA's from the factory. From numbers put down by healthy stock NA's it looks like they are right around 205-210 hp at the very most.

If you wanna go really fast, then just go TT. It would take crap loads of money, much more than the TT swap to get the NA anywhere near as fast as a TT.

Well, since this is brought up again then I might as well ask now...when people referr to hp gain from a port and polishing job, exactly what is being ported (please explain what port is as well please ) and what is being polished? 'Cause I'm looking to do something like it in the future.

Re: Potential for an N/A?

Basically what it is, is widening and smoothing the path for airflow. For instance, if you port and polish your plenum, you are widening the openings for increased airflow, and then polishing to make them smooth. The smoother the surface is, the less imperfections there are to cause turbulance. Turbulance screws up the flow of the air. And as well all know, more air is good for more power.

Re: Potential for an N/A?

Okay, what else can be ported and polished besides the plenum? Approximately how much hp could one expect to get? And how much does it usually cost do perform a job (on average is fine as I know it'll probably differ from shop to shop).
