pop out door?

I remember watching 'Pimp My Ride' on MTV, and on one episode a girl's old toyota van of sort had a keyless entry. They put removed the handle and the keyhole it self and put fiberglass over it, sand and paint over it. The thing I'm talking about is she had an alarm which made the car door 'pop' out (no not laburgini doors) and there were no handles or keyhole to put in the hole. What is this called?

Thanks, FallOut

Door poppers. Its a 12v soleniod that pulls the bar in the door to open the latch when the button is pushed.

Re: pop out door?

It is a simple enough process if you know what you are doing for they come with no instructions..also you want to make sure you get a good kit with a heavier lb solonoid (shop around and you will see what I mean) because a cheaper kit may or may not open the door correctly all the time (parked on hills, slants and winter weather). Also if you have the time and money it sometimes is a smart idea to run a parallel battery from something small say a motorcylce battery in the trunk or something because if you leave your lights on and the battery goes dead..well I'm sure you are going to want to be able to get into your vehicle to pop that hood for a jump. I live in VA and I do fiberglass work and have installed these on a Sol before if you need anything. Anyways, good luck..oh and never believe or admire anything you see on a Automotive show that comes on MTV with a washed up rapper that knows nothing about automobiles as a host....Hope I helped ya

Re: pop out door?

I am fairly sure he knows who he is talking about, and believe me, the statement could never be retracted..

Funny story though.

I graduated high school this year. Wilst a college speaker was repping her college at my local vocational school i nfront of my second year electronics class and second year computer class, she said "Our school does a lot of high performance stuff, like on that MTV show Pimp My Ride." I wouldn't let that go. I raised my hand and said "Well, if by high performance you mean sparkley paint, huge wings, and fish tanks, then they probably don't have the race team you boast about." Then my teacher kicked me out for being disrespectful... Boy was her face red.

Re: pop out door?

something to keep in mind while building a show AND go car is this: "Do my mods keep me NHRA/SCCA legal?"... 99% of the tracks down here won't let you run with shaved door handles. Just something you may wanna check into before you start seriously modding. It would suck to build a show car that dynos at 380whp and never get to run it because your aesthetic mods don't meet spec.
