Rough idle when stopped

94 Escort LX had timimg belt break. Replaced belt, was told timing was set. Car seems to run okay once you get going but at stop lights it idles rough. It starts to rough idle after you have been stopped for anywhere from 5 to 15 seconds. The way it then starts out it is like the fuel mix is wrong (coughs and hesitates until it you get going then it seems ok). I am thinking it is the o2 sensor on the manifold. Any ideas out there?

Re: Rough idle when stopped

I am going hrough the same thing.
I have replaced a number of things on my 2000 X2 but can't seem to find the issue.
Going to the real shop today, I'll let you know what they tell me.

Re: Rough idle when stopped

Remove the throttle body and clean the carbon out of it. The Idle air control motor allows air into the system at idle but if the throttle body gets too dirty it will not work right. Also if you have one clean the IAC motor while you are there. Should improve idle.

If you didn't have this problem before the belt broke then I'd say the job was done incorrectly. You'll have to have the timing rechecked. Look for disconnected vacuum lines too. Your O2 sensor wouldn't have gone bad on account of the belt breaking. I think a bad EGR valve will do this too.
