upgrades

I was thinking of getting an exhaust cut out, and was wandering are they any good. Also, I wanted to get my head ported and polished and a guy was asking 200 canadian. Is this a good deal or a waste of my money?

Ah yes. An exhaust cut out.

Anyone remember that vid I posted of my dump valve? Holy hell. Well TC23, an exhaust cut out will hurt your performance, unless your boosted, which I doubt you are. Only cool thing about it (and I speak from first hand experience) is that running a straight pipe will make your car ungodly loud. Not ricer loud. LOUD loud. Like, set off car alarms loud. Like, literally hurts your ears under throttle loud. I had mine mistaken for a V8 on more than one occasion.

Other than that. There is not one positive about it. Most people will consider the sound annoying, even though I thought it sounded bad ass. And like I said, your performance will be shot. I would suggest that instead of a dump valve, and instead of a P/P, save up and invest in a good header back exhaust and a quality CAI. Or save up for a S/C or turbo, then you can run your dump valve.

Re: upgrades

if you ran an exhaust dump from right infront of your cat i cant imagine how that would hurt performance. your stock exhaust manifold being unmodified already has the required backpressure in teh exhaust. after that its like breathing through a longer straw, its just harder. after the first 3 feet of exhaust from the head itself, generally you are in the clear to run open exhaust. there is just no possible way taking a restriction away hurts performance.
